Men’s Health Week 2025: Shoulder-to-Shoulder – Why It’s Time to Connect for Health

Men’s Health Week 2025 runs from June 9th to 15th, and this year’s theme is,  ‘Shoulder-to-Shoulder: Connecting for Health’

This is a reminder that behind every suit, high-vis vest, hoodie, or football shirt is a man who might be struggling — and may not be saying a word.

At BMR Health and Wellbeing, we believe in the power of conversation, connection and community to change the narrative around men’s health. Whether it’s through webinars, awareness weeks, or informal chats, the ripple effect of one open moment can be extraordinary.

🧠 The Silent Crisis in Men’s Health

Let’s talk facts — because the statistics speak volumes:

  • 1 in 5 men dies before the age of 65 in the UK.

  • 3 out of 4 suicides are by men.

  • Men are less likely to visit their GP, despite having higher rates of many preventable conditions.

  • Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in UK men.

  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-45.

This isn’t just about illness – it’s about lack of awareness, social stigma, and the damaging message many men still receive: “Just get on with it.”

One Conversation Can Change Everything

Here’s the honest truth: Men don’t need to “man up” – they need to speak up. And they need to feel safe doing so.

Whether it’s about mental health, prostate symptoms, or low mood and burnout, we’ve seen at BMR how even a single webinar or awareness session can light a spark.

  • We’ve had blokes say they booked their first GP appointment ever after a prostate health webinar.

  • We’ve had team members open up about anxiety or stress after hearing a colleague share their story.

We’ve seen culture shifts happen not with grand campaigns, but with real talk.

Let’s Break the Stigma – Shoulder-to-Shoulder

Talking about health – especially "below-the-belt" stuff – can feel awkward. But awkward doesn't kill you. Silence might.

This year’s theme invites us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our dads, brothers, mates, and colleagues. Whether you’re the one struggling or the one listening, you’re not alone – and your voice matters.

Here’s how to get involved:

5 Easy Ways to Support Men’s Health Week:

  1. Host a Men’s Health Champion webinar with Dr. Rachel Jakeman. Get in touch to book or join!

  2. Put up posters or share stats in your workplace (we’ll happily provide the resources).

  3. Start a conversation – ask a mate how they really are.

  4. Share a personal story – it might be the nudge someone else needs.

  5. Encourage GP visits – especially around prostate and testicular health.

Knowledge is Power.

At BMR, we know that education and awareness are the game-changers. The more informed and open we are, the better we look after ourselves – and each other.

Webinars, toolkits, real-life stories and straight-talking sessions can turn the tide. And not just during one week in June, but all year round.

So this Men’s Health Week, let’s ditch the silence. Let’s go shoulder-to-shoulder. Because one small conversation could be the start of a much bigger change.
